Sales tax filing: period support documents
Collect POS summaries, exempt sales support, marketplace reports, and jurisdiction notes for a clean sales tax filing period.
What this template is for
Sales tax filings stall when exempt certificates are missing or POS data does not tie to deposits. This checklist asks for the minimum package your team needs to prepare or review a filing for a given period, without re-opening the whole GL.
When to use it
- Monthly or quarterly filing cadence.
- Nexus review periods when the client added states or channels.
- After platform changes (new POS, Shopify, Amazon FBA).
Tips
- Replace the period in your email subject line; consider one template per state if filings diverge.
- For marketplace facilitators, ask for settlement reports that show tax collected remitted by the platform.
